Skytop Lounge #186-189
Signature Car of Twin Cities Hiawatha Arrives

Walthers announces the arrival of the ninth of ten authentic HO Scale Milwaukee Road cars, the Skytop Lounge #186-189. Based on equipment from the 1955 Twin Cities Hiawatha, these new cars are being produced especially for Walthers 75th Anniversary.

Fast Facts: Milwaukee Road's fast moving Hiawathas provided speedy, stylish service for travelers between Chicago and the Twin Cities. The signature car of the train was the Skytop Lounge. Like nothing else on rails, this observation-lounge featured a distinctive round glass end offering passengers a spectacular view of the scenery as the train skimmed along the banks of the mighty Mississippi. Designed by Brooks Stevens, the stylish car looked like it was moving fast even when standing still. Inside, plush swivel seats offered travelers a comfortable place to spend the trip. Four cars with names in the "…Rapids" series were built in the railroad's own shops for Twin Cities Hiawatha service. Today, the Cedar Rapids, owned by the Friends of the 261, operates in excursion and charter service.

Features: This superbly detailed car is equipped with factory-installed electrical pickups, diecast knuckle couplers and correct eight-foot wheelbase Nystrom trucks with RP-25 wheels. It is handsomely painted in Milwaukee's distinctive maroon and orange colors, and comes complete with number decals. The car features the correct prototype length and underbody detail so a minimum 24" radius is recommended for operation.
