McCloud retired their fleet in the 1970s. Other carriers, however, continued to roster Thrall-Door cars for several decades. Sporadic railfan sightings into the early 2000s indicated that some all-door cars likely served out the maximum 40-year life in interchange service allowed by the AAR for cars built before 1974. At least one ccar is preserved at the Illinois Railroad Museum. This model features accurate details, , roller-bearing trucks with free-rolling fast-angle metal wheelsets, fine paint, crisp lettering and knuckle couplers.
