33' 2-Bay Offset Side Hopper - Ready to Run -- Southern Railway #285544 (Boxcar Red)

This 33' twin bay hopper with offset sides is painted brown with white herald and lettering. It was built by the Pressed Steel Car Company in late 1937 and runs on Bettendorf trucks. This car represents one of a 1,100-car order comprising two series: 285500-285999 for Cincinnati, New Orleans & Texas Pacific and 320100-320699 for the Alabama Great Southern Railroad, both subsidiaries of Southern Railway. Such ownership was denoted by small road initials in the upper right hand corner of the car sides.
