Product Information

New York Central's first all-steel house cars were unveiled in 1916 to compete with Pennsy's X-25. Equipment and fittings on early cars varied slightly between lots. Starting in the late 1930s, most were rebuilt as single door box cars. Many received only AB brakes and extra grab irons, and ran essentially as-built into the mid-to-late 1950s. In 1942, door end cars were rebuilt with corrugated end doors and Youngstown side doors, and ran up to 1960. Models first 500 cars, with full end door and somewhat different door hardware from other deliveries. Taller doors, large off-center tack board, door pull on small door and thinner door track of the prototypes are featured in this version.
