The 3000 horsepower SD40 was one of EMD's most popular locos ever produced. Starting in 1966, more than 1200 units would eventually be sold and used in North America, and a large number are still being used today. The models feature a powerful five-pole motor with dual brass flywheels, factory installed DCC socket, Kato semi-automatic knuckle couplers, working headlight, printed numberboards, MU hoses and more.
