In the early 1960s Ford Motor Company prodded the railcar manufacturers to design a railroad car fleet to meet changing conditions in the automotive industry. One of these was the 60' double plug door boxcar designed for transporting high-density components such as castings and transmission assemblies. This boxcar features free-rolling Delrin(R) trucks with contoured axles, truck-mounted Magne-Matic(R) couplers and interior weights.
