Classic Cab Units for your Railroad As a follow up to its successful introduction of the FT, EMD made a few improvements to the design and offered its 1,350-horsepower F2 which was essentially an FT in a new body. The F2 was produced for only a few months, but its new body would become the basis for thousands of F series diesels to follow. Its successor, the 1,500-horsepower F3 offered customers a boos in power along with numerous internal changes to improve performance. In addition, the F3 was touted as a dual-service locomotive that could handle freight or passenger runs (when equipped with a steam generator). Offered as A units or as cabless B unit boosters, EMD went on to build over 1800 units between 1945 and 1949 when the F3 was succeeded by the F7.
