Product Information

Originally built by General Motors for the Union Pacific, the DD40AX is the world's largest locomotive, generating an incredible 6600 horsepower with two 16-cylinder engines. Production of 47 units began in 1969. Today there are 12 DD40AXs preserved in museums. Engine #6922 is the only remaining unit in service, running fan trips out of Cheyenne, Wyoming. This model features dual skew-wound motors, all-wheel drive, machined brass flywheels, die-cast chassis, directional headlights and "gumball machine" roof light.
