Since 1995, the scenic "Surf Line" has hosted main line commuter service between San Diego and Oceanside, California. Formerly owned by Sante Fe, the line's current owner is the San Diego Northern Railway. Its passenger equipment is lettered Coaster, short for Coast Express Rail. Some of the stations along the route were built by San Diego Northern, while others remain from Sante Fe's passenger days. Hop aboard with Pentrex and travel south, enjoying countless views of the beautiful Pacific Ocean as the track runs atop bluffs overlooking the waves. You'll see many Amtrak passenger trains with both Amfleet coaches and the unusual bilevel "California Cars." Burlington Northern Sante Fe freight puts in an occasional appearance, and there are many scenes of Coaster runs with their unique MK F40PHM-2C locomotives.
