This Bachmann HO Scale Silver Series 40' Steel Gondola is based on cars used in the steam and classic-diesel eras. 40' Steel Gondolas hauled everything from coal to scrap metal to pulpwood, serving all kinds of industries. Later in their life, some cars were transitioned into maintenance-of-way use, further extending their usefulness and expanding the types of liquid they carried. Today, examples can typically be found in museums and operating on photo freights with tourist railroads.
