Introducing the new ProtoMAX(TM) Double Shelf Coupler from WalthersProto! Featuring all-new tooling and die-cast metal construction, these new HO Scale couplers are based on the double-shelf couplers that first came into use in the 1970s. On the prototype, the distinctive shelves above and below the coupler knuckle prevent railroad cars from separating vertically or riding up and over one another during a collision or derailment. These couplers are mandated for use on cars that carry hazardous or flammable material, such as chemical, fuel, or oil tank cars.
