The prototypes for the Bachmann Spectrum HO Scale 80-Ton Three-Truck Shay were workhorse steam engines for logging and industrial lines. One of the most unique steam locomotives to grace the rails, this model is based on a patented design by logging entrepreneur Ephraim Shay. The 80-ton three-truck model was one of the most popular standard-gauge configurations for this classic geared locomotive. Designed for optimal performance on the tough grades and rough track common to logging railroads, the Shay remained popular long after steam was retired from conventional use, and many went on to gain a second career in preservation. Features of this model include durable metal gears and Soundtraxx(R) Tsunami2(TM) sound and DCC. Other features include a dual-mode NMRA-compliant decoder for DCC and standard DC operation, soft-white LED directional headlight and tender backup light, complete prototypical drivetrain with metal gears, separately applied stack, domes, and cab; a detailed cab interior with lighted firebox and more. This model features an injection-molded body, fine decoration, RP25 contour wheels for operation on Code 70 and larger rail and E-Z Mate(R) Mark II knuckle couplers.
